What is a Work Platform?
Much like mezzanines, work platforms are structures that create an intermediate floor to support personnel, equipment, or materials.
Where work platforms differ from standard mezzanines is their usage, size, and permanence.
A work platform is considered a piece of equipment, therefore a temporary structure. Sometimes, these platforms can be moved around your facility to different areas to provide your staff with a modular elevated platform.
Work platforms are usually not considered in the building code requirements, as well as the buildings’ fire area since their usage is mainly for mechanical systems, working areas, or equipment.
These solutions are also assessed with lower value and taxes due to their size and classification as pieces of equipment.
Key Features
Versatility
Work platforms are highly versatile structures with custom heights, lengths, and uses. These platforms perform well and are long-lasting solutions for facilities in any industry.
Cost-Efficiency
In many cases, work platforms are assessed with lower value and taxes than traditional mezzanines. Depending on the platform, they can be moved to different areas of the facility should they be required for multiple processes.
Space Utilization
A great solution for taking full advantage of your vertical space, work platforms can keep staff and equipment organized near their respective processes, while also allowing for additional storage or access under the platform.
Work Platform Options
From Catwalks to rack-supported platforms, and even freestanding work platforms, there are many ways to outfit your facility with a proper work platform solution!
Catwalks
Catwalks provide access and additional workspace for personnel to access equipment at a certain elevation. In some cases, catwalks can even be used as a means of safe and unrestricted movement from one area of the facility to another.
Free Standing Platforms
These work platforms are the most common as they can support themselves providing an elevated area for staff, equipment, or materials.
Along with offering freestanding platforms from various suppliers, our in-house fabrication shop has built a variety of these platforms for different clients as well!
Supported Platforms (Rack or Shelving supported)
These work platforms are specifically used to access racking or shelving units that reach height up in the facility. This allows staff to pick from multiple levels of the racking or shelving system allowing them to quickly and easily retrieve what they need from storage.
