We recently completed a dock project for an energy provider in Seabrook, NH. This provider contributes a substantial amount of carbon-free energy throughout New England.
Led by Sales Rep, Jeff Moran and Project Manager, Chris Pool our team executed an installation involving both structural modification and precision work.
The Problem
The client’s existing dock position consisted of a simple dock pad, which created challenges for adjusting to different heights of delivery trucks. Due to the amount of traffic coming into the dock position, this issue became more apparent as time went on.
The Solution
Our solution was to remove the 8” thick existing concrete from both the dock platform and the face of the dock. This required significant demolition work.
Additionally, we removed the concrete to install a flexible conduit for wiring and airlines, which were then concealed behind the new concrete to maintain a clean appearance.
Lastly, an air-powered dock leveler was installed into the pit. By installing this new dock leveler, we provided a flexible solution to accommodate various truck heights, enhancing the efficiency and safety of their loading operations.
What is an Air-Powered Dock Leveler?
An air-powered dock leveler uses compressed air to raise and lower its platform, making it easier to bridge the gap between a loading dock and different truck heights. This system allows for smooth, quick adjustments and is known for being efficient, reliable, and low maintenance, making it ideal for busy loading areas.
Installation Process
Our crew started by carefully demolishing the existing 8-inch-thick concrete from the dock platform and face, and excavating any fill material to accommodate the new leveler.
A fresh concrete pad was poured under the leveler to create a solid foundation, while rebar was embedded into both the existing and new concrete for a sturdy tie-in.
In order to guarantee a clean and polished appearance, we backfilled and blended the flexible conduit after excavating a slot for it in the concrete to ensure a smooth installation. The entire setup was completed in a single day, in very hot and humid conditions, showcasing our team’s dedication and skill in managing challenging conditions.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, the pit cut, demolition, and dock leveler installation at the Seabrook location was completed efficiently and effectively, overcoming challenges with precision.
The project successfully met the client’s needs for truck height adaptability, showcasing our commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality solutions.
